Holy $MRNA. What a gap and move today.

Most market news is bullshit. It either does nothing, or the headline gets written after the stock has already moved and everyone pretends it explains what happened.

But occasionally, a real catalyst hits and creates an opportunity for traders watching the news and tape in real time.

The news was already well known in premarket, but even if you waited for a 15-minute opening range breakout, you still could have captured a 20% to 30% move.

A more aggressive 5-minute opening range breakout offered close to 40% upside while risking roughly 6%.

That is about a 6R trade.

You didn’t need to predict the news or catch the initial gap. You just needed to recognize the unusual strength, define your risk, and execute.

A Nice Example of a Cup Base Breakout

MRNA recently formed a cup base on the weekly chart that showed some solid volume characteristics.

First, volume began expanding off the bottom of the base as price climbed the right side. That’s often the first sign institutions are stepping in.

As price approached the prior high, it formed a short handle, drifting slightly lower on light volume.

That low-volume pullback is important because it shows supply drying up.

When price moved back toward the highs, it broke out on strong volume, confirming demand had taken control.

Now, MRNA didn’t have the earnings and sales growth we typically look for in leading stocks, but technically it was a great example of how we look for low-risk, high-reward entries.

Defined structure. Clear pivot. Logical stop.

So far the move has produced roughly 3–5 times the initial risk, depending on stop placement.

That’s the goal.

Not predicting.

Simply recognizing when supply dries up and demand takes control.
