How to Spot the Market’s Next Leading Industry Groups Before the Crowd
My exact top-down and bottom-up process for tracking sector rotation, relative strength, earnings growth, and institutional accumulation.
Originally published on Substack.
In this video, I walk through the exact process I use to identify changes in market leadership. I begin with the major indexes, sectors, subsectors, and industry groups to determine which areas are gaining relative strength across multiple time frames. I then confirm that top-down analysis from the bottom up by looking for clusters of individual stocks with strong earnings, sales growth, fund ownership, price performance, and technical setups.
You’ll see how I use the RS Dashboard, individual stock screens, industry-group filters, and ETF holdings to uncover where institutional money may be moving. I also explain why one strong week is not enough to confirm a meaningful rotation, how to use market lows as relative-strength anchor dates, and why your RS time frame should match the length of your trades.
Most importantly, I cover how to avoid chasing short-lived rotations during weak, sideways markets, when a different industry group can appear to lead every week. The goal is not to catch every move from the beginning. It is to recognize durable leadership early enough to participate while avoiding the “death by a thousand cuts” that comes from constantly chasing whatever just moved.
